Ukrainian singer Astrid Way has unveiled a dramatic video for her song “I’ll Forget You”—a sensual R&B track about liberation from a toxic relationship that has become a manifesto of female empowerment.
The song “I’ll Forget You” was born in 2019 during an emotional breakdown. After sitting in her drawer for five years, it forced her to relive the painful experience of an abusive first love. “I wanted to jump out the window,” the singer admits, recalling the recording process. Due to the complexity and painful nature of the topic, the song’s final sound was only recorded in 2024.
The music video for “I’ll Forget You” was filmed from August to October 2025. The shoot was no less dramatic: blood before the start, real snakes in the frame, mystical coincidences with props, and a long search for the hero—”between Hades and a gentleman.” “My hands were shaking when I wrote to him,” the artist says of the casting of the actor who portrayed the abuser.
The video’s visual concept is based on a system of archetypes: from the image of the “convenient” housewife to the demonic Lilith and Medusa as symbols of a woman who has survived abuse and is regaining her power. The video’s ending is an act of symbolic liberation: the heroine removes the amulet of addiction and chooses freedom.
“This video is about the archetypes that live within every woman. About the journey from convenience to strength, about how every woman has the power to reclaim her freedom,” notes Astrid Way.
Astrid Way produced and wrote the video for “I Will Forget You,” directed and filmed it with Ivan Chernyshev, and Sergey Dongauser served as assistant director. The lead male role was played by theater and film actor Kirill Maikut (a teacher at the Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television and a member of the Young Theater), who embodied the archetype of a charismatic, manipulative, and obsessive actor.
