The popular music publication “MUZVAR” covered the loud premiere of Ukrainian singer and songwriter Astrid Way – her new single and video manifesto “Butterflies”.
The publication’s journalists analyzed in detail the deep philosophy and symbolism of the new blues-rock work. The plot is based on the metaphor of a butterfly in a glass jar, which personifies human dreams and inner potential, which we often hide behind the locks of our own fears. The release calls for breaking down inner walls and living to the fullest right now, because tomorrow is not promised to anyone.
Special attention is paid to the dramatic story of the creation of the video. “MUZVAR” told about the serious trials that the team went through on the set – from Astrid Way’s injury (the artist broke her leg on the eve of the first day of filming) to funny behind-the-scenes moments with a live giant butterfly “Dracula”.
However, the most important and painful emphasis of the article was the social and emotional context of the video work. The clip “Butterflies” became the last filming for the band’s bassist, Dmytro Tikhanovych. Shortly after the filming was completed, the musician returned to the front lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where in the spring of 2026 he heroically died in the battle for the freedom of Ukraine. This video work became an official manifesto in memory of Dmytro (“Tykhan”) and thousands of other defenders whose dreams were taken away by the war.
“This work is a reminder of the price of our freedom and how important it is to protect the light within ourselves,” the publication notes.
